Toilet clogs are one of the most common bathroom plumbing problems. If you have a clog in your toilet, you can generally pump the water through the system by following these steps:

1. Flush the toilet once. Be very careful—multiple flushes could cause the water to overflow.
2. Press a plunger over the opening in the bowl and pump vigorously.
3. Lift the plunger to see if the water flushes on its own. If there is still water in the basin, repeat.

If your home loses electrical power, first call your utility provider to determine the cause. Outages sometimes occur due to inclement weather.

You may also want to locate your circuit breaker and reset it, in case the circuit was overloaded accidentally.

If your hot water heater isn't working properly, check the settings on the side of the tank. If your tank has a pilot button, you may need to relight it.

Your HVAC system is controlled by your thermostat. Locate the thermostat and make certain the settings haven't been accidentally changed. You may also want to call your electrical company to make sure there are no problems with your account.
